My name is Chloe Grace Cartledge. I'm a twenty-three year old writer currently living in Victoria, Australia. I'm passionate about Jesus, travel, old Hollywood films, new Hollywood films, plants, photography, design, and fashion (so I'm an absolute nightmare when it comes to theming).

MY FILM PICK

OF THE MONTH

NOT OKAY (2022)

I cannot lie, I knew a bare minimum about this movie before watching it on Disney+ this month. Even with films I know little about, I tend to set certain expectations based solely on the blurb, the cast of the film, and the overall design. This movie surpassed each and all of my low expectations.

Not Okay, directed by Quinn Shephard, appeared to me to be an already-dated 2020s influencer-era satire movie, with little to no grasp on how rapidly micro-trends rise and fall. But this was used in an artful way, acting as commentary on the fragile nature of online notoriety and how quickly things can fall apart if they're not properly grounded.

Zoey Deutch did an incredible job portraying the deeply unlikeable Danni Sanders, who caused me deep discomfort as she evaluated the value of truth and relationships against fame and attention.

This movie is visually creative, clever in its ability to work in light and shade, and lets be honest - who could ever discount a film with Dylan O'Brien as the supposed love interest? Certainly not me.
